I’ve been debating back and forth as to whether or not I want to mingle my personal life with my food blogging – in other words.. create one web space for it all. I currently have a personal blog AND a food blog. Should I combine the two and have the best of both worlds?
This is hard for me because…
I exist in this constant paradox where 1. I love to share my life and what I love with others… and 2. I’m a VERY private person. I’m like Ron Swanson … I’d like to be off the grid… at all times. Why does google know that I was thinking of purchasing that mirror; why does that ad keep showing up? Are they following me?
I’m that person who locks my doors 6 times every night… and then I make my husband double check, incase I missed the lock 6 times in a row. I don’t talk about my feelings (unless you’re my best friend), everything is fine (unless you are my husband.. just kidding!), you don’t know me, why are you requesting to be my facebook friend? <— yes that’s me…. and you creepy person, why do you keep staring at my baby?
A very large part of me hates sharing personal and private matters with strangers! That information is mine, not theirs… do they really care what me, my husband, and my baby are all about? Don’t they have better things to do? Better lock my doors again.
But then today… while I was debating hard over the vision I have for my blog… my personal blog “Living Williams” had a huge malfunction… and I think… maybe it’s a sign… maybe… move it all over to Kitchen Of Eatin’… right?…
That… and I’ve been inspired from other bloggers who include elements of their personal lives on their blogs.. and I realize… I like their blogs because their food looks great… blah blah… but also BECAUSE I’m so interested in THEM.
I was listening to the Food Blogger Pro podcast today, and they advised, “make your blog like a blog YOU would want to read”. And so I do; I want my blog to be like the blogs I love to read. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Recipes are cool, and I’m obsessed with creating them, photographing them… the entire food blogging process… but how cool would it be to pass along to my family not only a virtual family cookbook… but a virtual diary documenting the highlights of our lives?
That… and I believe people like to connect with other people. Why else would Facebook be such a hit? And from a business perspective (I do have a desire to grow this webspace into a business), I personally believe I can grow my blog more comfortably if I choose to open myself up a little bit, and get over my “off-the-grid” issues.
So, I’m creating a space on my website called Family Style, for anyone interested in me, my little bestie (Eliza), and Steven. That’s you… mom, Joy, dad… (maybe).
So here’s my first on-the-grid post… just opening up about my privacy issues. Hopefully I didn’t scare you away with how weird I am. It’s okay if I did, but come back for the next one, because Eliza is really cute. She’ll make you want to come back for more, for sure!
Here’s a teaser:
