As I’ve been reading various health and wellness websites, I see everywhere the suggestion to start your day with a glass of warm lemon water (before anything else). Most sites say it will detox and cleanse your body, but don’t go into much detail beyond that.
Is it really all it’s cracked up to be?
I checked for some additional information around the web about the lemon water health benefits, and here’s some information that I found:

Lemons Can Aid in Digestion + Help Detox Your Body
Some evidence suggests lemon water aids in proper stomach acid and bile production.
Lemons help your body to process and absorb more of the good nutrients in foods more steadily, keeping insulin levels more consistent. <— less energy spikes and drops.
Some evidence suggests lemon water can help the liver to flush out toxins.
Lemons are a source of Vitamin C

Boost your immune system … plus other vitamins and minerals can be found in lemons, including but not limited to: folate, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin B6.

This one was actually news to me… made me love lemon water even more. The antioxidants in lemons help our bodies to fight free radicals and other chemicals, and the result has benefits not just for health… but for skin… helping to provide a younger, radiant and fresher look. <– Helps to prevent wrinkles and acne!
Lemons aid in Weight Loss
Lemons are full of pectin, a fiber that makes our bodies feel fuller longer… so in turn we eat less calories. ((Drinking enough water in general, can help increase your metabolism. ))
Lemons boost energy
Drinking a glass of lemon water provides an extra zing of energy without a caffeine spike and drop. When I have my master cleanse slushie (lemons, ice, water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper) I figured I was just on a sugar high from the maple syrup … turns out I can also attribute that pre-workout beverage to those zingy lemons!
Drinking water in general first thing in the morning is the way to get your mind and body stimulated, with or without lemons.
ditch the coffee in the early AM.
I don’t believe that there is one cure all (AKA magic potion… yes including lemon water) for creating a perfect health situation… I believe that learning to make healthy food choices every day –> and that making this a lifestyle is key to overall wellness and health.
Also, it’s not a pricey morning beverage, especially if you have a lemon tree 🙂
